Negroni # 95 The Flights Negroni

We've seen scores of variations but often a standard, by the book Negroni is just right.

This one enjoyed at Flights Wine & Whiskey Bar. It was just right. This great bar on Marble Street in Pleasantville, NY has an amazing selection of whiskey and wine for your tasting pleasure. There is also an appealing menu of small plates and salads to accompany your libations.

Equal parts

New Amsterdam Gin

Carpanno Antica Red Vermouth

Campari

Stirred well and served over a big cold rock of ice with an orange twist. Delicious.

I asked Sean the bartender his secret and he replied I just follow the recipe and use first rate ingredients.

With our drinks, we enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Bruschetta. Topped w/ Dill Sauce Capers, Onions, & Fresh Lemon on warm Focaccia Bread and their Truffle Burrata Bruschetta, Triple-Soft Buffalo Mozzarella w/ Black Truffle on Focaccia Bread w/ Grape Tomatoes, Diced Garlic, Truffle Balsamic, & Olive Oil. Both were delicious.

Count Camillo Negroni

As to its origin, the most prevalent story is that it was first created in Florence, Italy in 1919, at Caffè Casoni, an antique shop/bar, (think Il Buco) where now Caffè Giacosa is found. As the story goes Count Camillo Negroni asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin instead of the typical soda water. Count Pascal Olivier Negroni

Of course like most tales in Italy there is another version of the story. In his one it is told that the drink was invented in 1857 in the West African country of Senegal by Corsican General Pascal Olivier de Negroni. They say he created a drink to aide his new wife’s digestion lifting the drink to toast to her health on their wedding day. Negroni family lays claim to namesake cocktail
